Room 4 Poetry

We have begun our poetry unit this term, beginning to look at using imagery, mood and themes in our poems.

Have a read of Elijah's fantastic poem.  What is it about?

Water Droplet

Running across the branch as I fell to the ground
A leaf softly caught me as it danced by
I join my friends in a puddle, that's fine
No one knows we never die, if they said we did, that would be a lie.

Yes, it's about the water cycle which we are studying for topic!

Measurement - Estimate that!

Room 4 has begun investigating different standard units of measurement this term.  We have chosen objects to measure and have made estimations first and then measured them using standard units such as mm, cm, m, and km.  We are beginning to look at using our prior learning to help us convert units from one unit to another unit of measurement.  We are having lots of fun too, ka pai!

What do you think it measures?

We better check our thinking!

Wow, my estimate was really close.

All About Me - Museum

We had a wonderful day sharing our stories, memories and treasures about ourselves on Wednesday, when our All About Me Museum was open to the public!
We proudly shared our photographs depicting important information about us, our Prezi timelines with 5 significant events in our lives, art that depicted a fun thing we like to do, and 4 artefacts that are our treasures from different times in our lives.
Thanks to the senior syndicate who came and shared our learning and also to all the parents and grandparents who came to view.  Room 4 worked hard on their histories and the museum was a great success, well done everyone.

Some of the questions that helped us to gather information about ourselves.
Flynn beside his amazing artefacts in our Museum.
Dan's family came to view our Museum.
Eddie sharing his learning with Dad.
Cindy-Ray all set up for Museum opening.  It was Wacky Hair Day too!

Hutt City Art Mural Competition

Boulcott School entered the Hutt City Council run competition to produce a mural that reflects our thoughts and memories of Lower Hutt.  The finished murals are to be placed around the council building as it begins a renovation.
All of the senior syndicate were involved in some way.  Every child in each class produced a wonderful design, from which 21 were chosen and then drawn and painted by a group of 20 seniors.  The senior syndicate also took an afternoon walk to the Hutt River where everyone collected 2 river stones which were then painted and incorporated into our mural.  Well done to Kate, Mia, Genevieve, Flynn, Donald, Bronson, Daniella, Christina, Cindy-Ray, Renan and Greta from Room 4 who helped Mrs Kaye get this completed.  Ka pai!

Our finished masterpiece ready for collection!

This is Me Art

Topic this term is All About Me, so we have completed an art piece that shows us doing something we love.  First we took a photo of ourselves doing a fun activity.  Then we printed them out in black and white and traced around the details.  We then used dye to highlight ourselves and other details and then used felt pens to colour in using doodles.  It was great fun!  Take a look…
