Books that are just right for me!

Room 5 has been working hard at choosing a chapter book from the Library that is a good fit.  They came up with the success criteria for selecting a book 'that is just right for me' -

E.O.T.C.

Last week of Term 1 saw our Education Outside the Classroom.  We had great learning experiences, such as Dog Safety, art projects, making healthy snacks and our river trip.  We did a big rubbish clean up on our walk to the river and at the river, collecting big bags of rubbish!  We then collected some small river rocks and drift wood so we could make art from recycled objects to place around the school.  Old tyre's have been made into a pyramid to climb all over and they have been a big hit during lunchtime -

Zany Zoo Treats

This term is flying by so I better get some photos up of Room 5's fantastic zoo sleepover!  We had an exciting night viewing the zoo in the dark.  The giraffe didn't appreciate us waking her up and the Lemurs gave us a fright because they suddenly barked at us out of the dark!  We were taken through the zoo's kitchen and saw how much food the zoo had to prepare, and we viewed the freezer from the inside!  We also got to make treats for the monkeys, pinecones stuffed with popcorn and raisins which we fed to them in the morning.

Re-telling the Main Idea

Room5 have been working hard on making their own books based on the main events from
The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch.
They have retold the main event from each day and sequenced the story together to form their own book.  Everyone worked really hard to include interesting words and to draw wonderful pictures.
Their books are amazing!  Want to come and read them?

Addition Flap Books

We have been working hard on learning our addition basic facts this week, especially 'Friends of Ten'.
Great fun was had by all and lots of learning too, as we put our own addition flap books together.
Take a look!  Next week we will try subtraction!

Our Fun Learning so Far!

Room 5 have had an incredibly busy start to their Year 4 learning this term.

They have had fun writing descriptions, looking at ways to 'hook' our readers interest and how to choose interesting words when describing something - like a 'Gruncher' from Roald Dahl's The Minpins and also their 'Rocking School Shoes'!  Here is some of our writing -

It's hermit crab eyes are really high but it still can't see above all the smoke he blows.  All of his spikes are covered in blood from all the animals, humans, and Minpins he's killed!  It's dark as night stomach can squash 14 cows when it lies down.  The Gruncher's blue as the sea hooves can run up to 70km an hour.  By Jed.

What is your favourite pair of shoes?  My favourite pair are black and red and they have got a rubber sole.  They have got white lines down the sides.  My shoes are super bendy and they have got little holes down the sides too.  By Matthew.

We have gathered data, made bar graphs, looked at the mode, range and median and discussed what our graphs tell us.  In these pictures we had to count how many books we had in our desks and build our bar graph.

We started topic about Boulcott's past, particularly Boulcott Farm in 1846.  We did a 'gallery walk' where we looked at photo's and pictures of our past and came up with 'What I noticed...' and 'One question I have now...'

We thought about the things that make our hearts healthy for Valentine's Day, and came up with great ways to keep ourselves healthy.

The class has been super swimmers over the last two weeks.  Well done to all those who have tried really hard to improve, ka pai!
