Let's Re-Cap

Room 13 will be reflecting more on our learning this term. We have several new ideas about how to do this. The first one is a statement/question task using post it notes. A great way of thinking about what you know and a good way of working on our key competency 'thinking'. Ka pai

Narratives!

In Room 13 we are looking at narratives.  We are looking at and discussing the development and relationship of characters.
To do this we read Anthony Browne, Voices in the Park.
The class described the characters and how they all linked with each other and the setting.
We then had to take one of the characters and come up with a short story placing them in another setting.
Some children decided Mum's snobby character could be in a fancy restaurant.  Here is the opening paragraph from one story -

I opened the door and a little bell tinkled from above.  A bit ... rustic for my taste.  My custom-made pitch black high heels softly clicked on the floor.  Gentle, elegant music wafted around the room played by a jazz band in the background.  A young waiter led me to my table which was covered with a table-cloth made of silk.  I looked through a menu with what looked like very expensive paper.  Only the best for this restaurant.

Room 13 literacy

This term for literacy we have been doing seed writing.  Here is Charlie's plan.
He has come up with 4 good ideas for his Chores seed and has also included 2 details per idea to help him write.  Charlie can quickly put each idea with details into paragraphs.

Wonderful Writing

Hadrick wrote a fabulous descriptive paragraph about an Olympic athlete.
Have a listen to him reading his writing!
