Reading Skills - Character Traits

Room 5 have enjoyed our reading unit this term on the text - The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School.   Thanks to the girls at lessonplansos.com. for the wonderful ideas.
We looked at how the gingerbread man reacted to his situation and what we could infer about his character from the text.  The final creative activity was really fun and the gingerbread men were all very original!  Ka pai.

Fun Learning Outside

Room 5 had fun playing Blend Hockey and Timestable Hockey in the beautiful sunshine today.  We really need to get a couple of hockey pucks though, because balls were rolling away and the paper was blowing around in the wind!  Anyway we had a great game between two teams.  Literacy group had to think of a word that contained the blend they landed on, and the maths team had to solve a 3 or 4 x table question.  Great learning guys!  Many thanks to Rachael at Classroom Game Nook for the cool idea.

Senior Syndicate Fun Day

Yay!  Off to school in our PJ's for Fun Friday.  We had such fun in our colourful pj's and onesies!  We also held auditions for Boulcott School's talent contest.  A big ka pai to the four acts who auditioned from Room 5 - the only Yr4's who chose to participate!  You are all really brave and fearless to perform in front of the senior school.  Congratulations to Jacquie and Jed who made it through to the finals.

Let us excite our reader!

Room 5 can 'hook' their reader because they are learning about a variety of 'leads' they can use in their writing.  Mrs Kaye made a poster of the new ways we can use to start our writing after seeing it on pinterest.  Can't wait to read all the exciting opening sentences to come!  Ka pai.

Artsplash

Wow, Boulcott School gave an amazing performance on Wednesday night at the Michael Fowler Center.  The concert went off perfectly, everyone sang their hearts out and had a fun evening.  Our art was also on display in the foyer which I hope you all got to see before hand.  Well done to all you beautiful singers.

Gymnastics

Room 5 have completed their gymnastics rotations for the term.  They are fabulous gymnasts.  Here come the Olympics!

Creativity

This term Topic for the Senior Syndicate has been all about creating - dance, music, drama, culture and visual art.  Visual art children studied the modern work of Pablo Picasso, developing their skills in shading, overlapping and design.  Thanks to Gretchen over at gretchenbuwalda.blogspot.co.nz  for her creative ideas and inspirational advice.
Here are some of the visual art works that were created in the first topic rotation by our Yr 4/5/6 children.  Masterpieces I'm sure you will agree!
