Creating with Fractions

Shout out to the girls at www.lessonplansos.com for this great fraction creativity task.  The kids had a lot of fun creating an animal out of fraction pieces.  They then had to write a 'recipe' for their creations.  I like the integrated element of this activity.  These pictures will be used for our calendar art too.  We hope you like our animals!

Our garden has started out quite slowly.  Lots of silverbeet but only a few lettuces!
Hope we get some more though.

Artsplash

Room 5 are creating art for Artsplash at the Michael Fowler Centre in September.  We have looked at the art of Brad Novak and come up with 21 icons about 'Creative Arts' - dancing, drama, culture, visual art and music.  This is what we have done so far!

Flat Stanley Math Problems

Over the first two weeks of term, Room 5 have been learning about measurement and time.  We read a story called Flat Stanley and used problems Stanley faced in the book to learn how to solve word problems about measurement and time.  It was lots of fun learning!

Fun Fitness

St Orans students joined us for a fitness session in the last week of school to show us how to play an excellent new game based on dodge ball but it is even better! Protecting the teams Jedi is the aim without being hit yourself. Many thanks for sharing this with us girls. Ka pai.

Science Experiment

As Room 5 are light monitors for Boulcott School this year we decided to learn about electricity and how materials can conduct or insulate the flow. We chose different objects and put them into an electrical circuit to see if the electricity flowed to light the lamp. Then we made our observations and conclusions. It was fun learning!
